01The stay

A remote house, made for being together

Patagonia sets the pace.

Casa Ñire is a recently completed refuge on the southern shore of Lago General Carrera. Mornings begin with changing light on the water; evenings gather around the fire. The house is generous, but the experience remains simple.

You will be among the house’s first guests. A few details are still taking shape as we learn from each stay.

The forthcoming book

Before ArchitectureFour Ways of Dwelling at Casa Ñire

The book follows Casa Ñire through four times — place, arrival, project and dwelling — not as a linear sequence, but as a way of understanding architecture as a response to what the place already contains.

  1. I

Before architecture, there is geology, water, wind, distance and the ñire forest. The first movement reads Patagonia as an active presence and traces the memories that made returning to this shore possible.

  2. II

A place is learned through repeated journeys, changing seasons and the slow recognition of paths, thresholds and horizons. Arrival is presented not as an instant, but as a patient way of knowing the territory.

  3. III

The house emerges as a consequence of what was observed: orientation, section, shelter, structural order, local trades and the logistics of building far from the studio. Each decision is measured against the landscape.

  4. IV

Architecture is completed by use: fire, spring water, weather, maintenance, guests and small domestic rituals. The final movement observes how the house continues to change once life enters it.

The threshold

Arrival has its own room.

The red entrance gathers coats, boots and the first traces of the weather before the house opens towards the lake.

The book · In preparation

Before ArchitectureFour Ways of Dwelling at Casa Ñire

This forthcoming architectural monograph begins with a premise: before designing, one must learn to see. Through place, arrival, project and dwelling, Casa Ñire becomes the particular case for a wider reflection on architecture and belonging. The website keeps only a glimpse; the book preserves the full journey.
